Many customers express concerns about plant damage when we clean roofs using the soft wash method. However, soft washing remains the most effective cleaning method in terms of finish quality, cost, and reliability.
Soft Wash is fast, reliable, and leaves your roof looking demonstrably better than other methods.
It's important to note that some soft washing companies don't take all necessary precautions, which can unfairly tarnish the reputation of the soft wash method itself.
Gutters significantly reduce the risk of cleaning solution dripping onto plants. We also take great care to avoid over spraying beyond the roofline, using a specialized nozzle for precise application.
For roofs without gutters, we cover plants below the edge with nylon tarps as much as possible. In rare cases where large plants can't be fully covered, we thoroughly rinse the bleach solution with water to minimize any potential harm.
There is no perfect method for roof cleaning. While pressure washing with water eliminates the plant-related concern, it comes at a significantly higher cost (roughly double) and takes twice as long. Additionally, the cleaning effect with water only lasts 6 months, compared to 2-3 years with soft washing.
Ultimately, the customer decides. We encourage you to weigh the potential risks of soft washing against the benefits, and understand the employed mitigation strategies. It's important to note that even with these precautions, there's a very small chance of plant damage, typically limited to some leaf loss. Most plants recover within 2-3 months, depending on the species.
